Dersin amacı, Sümer-Akkad Dönemi siyasal tarihini; mimari, arkeolojik buluntu grupları ve yazılı belgeleri kullanarak tanıtmak; kentlerin yerleşim dokusunu vurgulamak; sanat eserlerini ana hatlarıyla irdelemektir.

Dersin içeriğini, MÖ 4. Binyıl sonunda ortaya çıkan ve MÖ 3. Binyıl içinde devam eden Sümer ve Akkad kültürlerini, mimarlık ve sanat alanlarında incelemek oluşturmaktadır.
