Bu ders Antik Yunan tragedyasından başlayıp günümüz İngiliz tiyatrosuna kadar gelerek değişen tiyatro ve kuram anlayışını incelemeyi amaçlar. Dersin asıl amacı öğrencilere kuram ve tiyatro konusunda çalışma ve araştırma yapma edimi ve oyun metinlerini kuramla okuyarak akademik makale yazma becerisini kazandırmaktır.
Bu ders Tragedyanın doğuşundan başlayarak Antik Yunan tragedyasına, İngiliz tiyatrosu dönem, akım ve kuramlarına odaklanır. 20. ve 21. Yüzyıl tiyatro metinlerini, 20. yüzyılın edebi kuramları ile inceler: Feminizm, Travma kuramı, Çevreci eleştiri, Feminist Çevreci Eleştiri, İnsan Sonrasıcılık, Mekansallık Kuramı gibi.
