Bu ders öğrencilerin uygulamalı antropolojide kullanılan teknikleri tanımalarını amaçlar. Öğrenciler antropoloji bilgisini ve saha araştırması tekniklerini kullanarak sosyal sorunlara çözüm önerileri geliştirme konusunda tecrübe kazanırlar. Ders kapsamında öğrencilerin dönem projesi olarak bir sorunu tespit ederek, hızlı değerlendirme teknikleriyle çözüm önerisi raporu hazırlaması hedeflenir.

Ders kapsamında uygulamalı antropolojinin tarihsel arka planı, farklı dönemlerdeki uygulamalı antropoloji yaklaşımları incelenir. Uygulamalı antropolojide kullanılan teknikler vaka çalışması örnekleriyle değerlendirilir. Antropologların çözüm üretmek amacıyla çeşitli paydaşlarla işbirliği yapabileceği sağlık, çevre, eğitim, gibi çalışma alanları tematik olarak ele alınır. Antropoloğun uygulamalı çalışmalardaki rolü, etik yükümlülükleri eleştirel yaklaşımlar çerçevesinde tartışılır.
