The module aims to: Knowledgeable about the theory and practice of international economics and trade Foster an awareness, appreciation, and understanding ofthe relevance of theory to international economics. Evaluate the empirical findings in support of international trade and the role of international bodies. Employable as graduates. At the end of the module, the student will be able: To understand the core theory relating to international economics Appreciate different methods and analytical models. To apply and interpret such models. To enhance their transferable/key skills
The module aims to introduce students to mainstream theories and a series of relevant issues in international economics. The students will be allowed to relate the theory to real-world evidence on international economics at national, international, and supranational levels. At the end of the semester, the student will be able to understand the core theory and practices relating to international economics, and to appreciate different methods and analytical models. A standard model of teaching/seminar applies here. The module will be assessed by means of a mid-term exam and an examination at the end of the semester.
The module will involve both directed and independent learning. Directed learning may include a range of activities, including pre-reading, preparation for seminar discussions, evaluation of recent events, etc. Guidance will be given on the nature of work to be undertaken either through the Teaching and Learning plan or through specific instruction related to a particular task. Independent learning is learning that the student identifies by pursuing areas of interest or by providing deeper or broader knowledge of the subject, through a range of learning activities that might include reading, reflection, research etc. Formative assessment will take place through discussions, case study activity, and theory/practice-related discussions in the context of a teaching and learning plan. Summative assessment will be through a final exam (60%), and 40% exam, and attendance (a midterm exam (30%), and regular attendance 10%)
