Bu derste, Eski Yunan Edebiyatı, özellikle de şiirsel gelenek bağlamında belirlenmiş bir tema çerçevesinde bir sunumu hazırlayabilmek ve sunabilmek konusunda temel bilgi ve beceri kazandırılmaya çalışılır. Bu doğrultuda yönteminden pratiğine her aşamasında öğrencinin donatılması amaçlanır. Derste şiirsel geleneğin belirli bir tarihsel çerçevesi sunumlarla ayrıntılı bir şekilde ele alınır. Dersin her yıl yapılacağı tarihsel çerçeve (arkaik, klasik, hellenistik ya da Roma dönemi gibi) değiştirilebilir.

Bu ders, Eski Yunan Şiiri'nin temel sorunlarına yönelik filolojik yöntemleri ve bakış açılarını inceler ve öğrencinin bu konuda bir sunum yapabilme yeterliliği kazanması amacıyla bu konuya giriş yapmasını hedefler.
