Dersin amacı, romanın antikçağdaki kökenlerine ve bir edebi tür olarak gelişim sürecine ışık tutmak ve söz konusu eserleri uslup ve içerik bakımından incelemektir.

Bu derste antikçağda bir edebi tür olarak romanın ortaya çıkışı ele alınacak ve metinlerden seçilen örnekler ışığında bu edebi türün mahiyeti üzerinde durulacaktır.
