This course aims to provide the students an indepth knowledge of state building in the Ottoman Empire and early Republican history from different and comparative perspectives. This course will not trace a narrative of Ottoman and Turkish modernization process but instead examine the making of modern state with its relation to agents, society, politics and culture.
